Drivings for show, puttings for doe. If you can just about drive the ball in a straight line but your short game is the nuts you should nearly always win... Take a couple of lessons on your short game...

Like FB im a great believer in practise for short game.
Its all about developing "feel".
The short game is a very personal thing and i wouldn't bother
getting a lesson on it as what the pro suggests might not be for you.
For once practise DOES make perfect!!
Any golfer have a short game to rival a pro if they practise lots.

As above, avoid paying a pro for advice. If you have a sound swing you will fond your own ways to perfect sort game shots. A pro will have a set of shots which apply to certain circumstances, but you will rarely find the right circumstances on the course. I used to play with a two guys with complete opposite short games. One would take a 7 iron for everywhere less than 100 yards and bump and run to perfection. The other one could float a sand wedge to a 1 foot circle from inside 50 yards. They both played off 4, but only when the course conditions where right. The bump and runner was alway foobared in the height of summer on downhill approaches. The floaty guy couldn't hit a green with overhanging trees, and usually took a spade with him in the winter for retrieving the ball from the plug marks Not sure if you are old enough, but the best way to improve at this time of year is to sit in the clubhouse with loads of beer watching how other (cold) people do it
p.s. XRS - Sorry if I am am leading him astray

FB cheers for the great ideas, although unfortunately I will be
waiting a year or 2 for that beer in the clubhouse, but by then I
plan to be much lower, which might suggest that I’ll be the one
stuck out in the cold?
What’s your H/cap and how long have you been playing?
