Question Home Insurance

Best Value Buildings and Contents Insurance?

They change each year as they go for market share - anyone know who are looking for market share at the moment?

I have Buildings and Contents Seperate ...... any benefit in combining them?

No price advantage as I can see .... but, if you claim on one you have effectively claimed on BOTH! Which I can see is a distinct disadvantage?

For anyone who may be looking for Home Insurance ...

TESCO's are looking for market share and are offering 50% OFF premiums at the moment ...

Of course, next year you will probably need to move to continue getting the best value - but 50% is a worthwhile saving!!

Word of warning with Tesco - they keep your payment details and will renew unless you tell them NOT to. When you start your Policy you need to make them aware that you do not want to renew automatically in 12 months time - then they cannot take payment.

Now then Peds. You want to find the best cover and then pay for it like a man, rather than being a pikey and looking to get the very cheapest that you possibly can.

What do you mean Olly - Personal Possessions cover ?

Note this can be either "replacement" (new for old) or "indemnity" - makes a big difference claim time.

Well renewed my Insurance with TESCO - moved from Norwich Union.

I added all the extras I could and reduced the XS to £25 and it was still cheaper than Norwich Union renewal quote.

I now have a super deluxe policy for less than the price of basic cover

Worth a punt while they have the 50% OFF offer on!

Try LIverpool & Victoria btw
I wouldn't!!!

Had the misfortune to have two claims with them last year and their claim handling is awful. They are good for car insurance in my experience but awful for buildings and contents. Could have something to do with the fact for a car they phone your local approved repairer who does all the work, so Liverpool Victoria don't touch it.

However it took Liverpool Victoria (now known as LV) 6 months to approve our new shed, and 11 months to approve the claim for contents. Shed cost £1,200 and contents were £1,200 so it was hardly a large claim.

They failed to respond to letters, the left hand didn't know what the right was doing.

Our claim was not dealt with wasn't until we received some marketing blurb from the Chief Executive of the CSMA saying how good LV were and he recommended them. We responded saying with a priate and confidential letter saying not in our experience, detailed our phone calls letters etc. It did the trick within 24 hours of him receiving the letter LV were on the phone and within a week they paid out for the contents.

However there is no way I am renewing with them!

Incidentially our neighbours who also had to claim for the same event and were with some unknown insurance compnay had a claim for contents and buildings totalling £14,000 and theirs was sorted with 3 months.

So unknowns can be good!

pete, whats the point in insurance....

all your toot bought from cheap outlets probably amounts to less that an annual premium...!! lol.

also dont bother with extended contents as thats for people who actually leave the house.

hope that helps
