Default Sky HD for £149

Had a letter today saying that as I was such a loyal customer I could have HD supplied and fitted for £149 plus £10pm, anyone else had the letter ...is it worth it yet.

The £10 per month is standard, but the box is effectively half price.

I have had it for a while now - I enjoy watching HD programmes especially some documenters, nature programmes and things like Lost. I think it is worth it.

This is the rate Sky charges if you buy a TV from Comets. I'm going to get it soon. I'll ring up Sky and demand the same price!

Had some point of sale @ work today and like Deep Singh says £149 is usually if your purchase a TV from either Sky of a authorised agent. To get it without is a good deal if u ask me

Sky's profits are down by ~16% due to high churn rate. Desperate for more revenue after cutting off their nose with virgin media.

Trouble is I have a Sky plus 160 which gives me 80 hours to record with and I do use it all and the HD has only 40 hours I believe....

Not true. The Sky HD box has a 300GB hard disk of which 140GB is reserved for Sky Anytime. The remaining 160GB would give you approx double the capacity of your Sky+160 for standard definition programming.
High Definition programming takes much more hard disk space (probably 4 times as much, hence the 40 hours capacity figure), but it is unlikely that everything you record will be in HD.

It's also relatively simple to upgrade the box with a new, larger hard disk if you feel so inclined (I've put a 500GB disk in mine).

As long as the installer has all his disneyland certs in place, and charges you a premium for his 1.5hrs work, I'd say go for it.

Tempting, but still don't think it's worth an extra tenner a month. Those already on a high monthly rate (mine is £37) it should be free.

If you have a big telly you need HDMI connection to get the best pic. That's the biggest bonus of the box - it REALLY improves SD pics. It's NOT worth an extra £10 a month, but I pay it as I appreciate the better pic quality and the odd HD movie/BBC Six Nations Rugby HD.

Dont get an STi and feed it paraffin is a good analogy

Miserable gits offered it to me for £199

Would be nice to have, but I need to get a HDTV first.

John.

Just read in yesterday's industry rag

"Sky had almost 250,000 HD subscribers by March, 10"

That's £2.5 million in extra subscriptions alone, let alone the extra they charge the people who have carriage arrangements with them

All that extra cash for a few slightly clearer shark documentaries, milking the early adopters for all they are worth
