Just out of interest. how many Premium Bonds have you got and how long have you had them?
I purchased £5000 worth in October 2006. I read online that they reckon an average person with average luck will make in a year enough to cover any interest that may have been made if the money was put into a high interest account. That certainly ties in with your 8% return to date.

The odds of winning a prize, any prize, is 24,000 - 1 each month.
Therefore, obviously, given an average amount of luck you could expect to win at least £50 each and every month if you have £24,000 worth.
The interest rate paid on the Invested sums from all the people is paid in prizes and I think it is currently 3.5% ...... which isn't a good return as you can get 5% anywhere.
But, if you get lucky, as I have this month with a £500 win + 2 x £50s to come in mid month.
Premium Bonds only really make sense if you hold the maximum £30,000 worth - you can put £30,000 in the wifes name and another £30,000 in each childs name .......... increasing your odds of winning the BIG one
Edited to say that I have had a Bond since they very first started ..... 50 years ago and it hasn't won ANYTHING!! It was £1 then, in 1957, and it's still just worth £1 now But a house could be bought for £325 - a 3 bedroom Semi in Norton, near Middlesbrough
