Let's be honest, she's just one of a very sad Cabinet line-up. Events like this just serve to highlight how ineffective she is as a Foreign secretary. Her speech in the Commons the other day, though eloquent, was woeful. But she's not alone.

The sad fact is that our Forces have been reduced such that we would be unable to mount an effective defence as we did 25 years ago.

War is obscene and it is reasonable to regret all the lives which were lost, but to omit the part played by our troops in such an heroic action is shameful to say the least. In common with her colleagues she appears to be particularly incompetent, vide her last job, the farmers are still suffering, and it seems that her head is well up the usual place!

Margaret Beckett has been particularly ineffectual in securing the release of the marines and sailors in Iran. Maybe she could fly to Tehran, then at the least they could make her wear a niqāb so we don't have to see her ghastly face of tv!

She and her collegues should be ashamed of themselves for what they have said and done.

100% correct SJ - the reality is that they are ashamed of The UK and its citizens and feel the need to apologise even before the hat is dropped.

The whole world can now see how weak our government is due to this affair, and they way it's been mishandled. It doesn't help that the opposition is in full consensous with the way it's been conducted. They are no better now with Cameron at the helm IMO.
