Default Think I'm alergic to paint fumes

We are having the offices painted at the moment and I'm feeling dreadful.

The painting started last week and all weekend, I've had a bad cold. Within an hour of being in work, I've got ear-ache and my eyes are puffy and my cheek bones ache. My throat its tight and my I feel stuffed up.

It used to happen before when I worked in a workshop every christmas we'd paint the floor and I'd spend christmas in bed with a cold.

I know it sounds like coincedence and I've just picked up a cold but I'm sure it sue to the paint.

Does this happen to anyone else?

Yeah, I can't stand the smell of paint. Gives me major headaches every time.

I am the same. I am sick if I inhale too much gloss paint and I feel horrible.

My rooms just about to be decorated

I never inhale Gloss Paint, very messy, the fumes are enough for me.

My 10 year old is allergic to paint fumes, we moved into a new house 2 years ago & could never work out why she reacted for (seemingly) no reason. Thought it was something she was eating, so had her allergy checked & fine. Then worked out it always happens when I was painting a room in the house. Got it confirmed by doctor & now she has to stay at her grans when we paint even a window frame.

The stuff i painted the scoob with "cellulose from paints4u" had a distinctive smell of pear drops

it was quite nice, although it did give me a white nose and a dizzy head

I hate the smell when gloss is fresh, but a few weeks later when a freshly painted radiator is on it smells quite nice, sort of fresh and clean, nearly as good as the smell of fresh carpet.

Never though about going to the docs. I'm having tomorrow off but they are painting my room so not a big issue. Going to try Thursday and get some anti-histamines (sp) see if they will stop me reacting. If not I'll have to stay off until the fumes go.

It always used to be called "Painter's Colic". Not much you can do about it but to avoid it. It affects some worse than others.
