Good,modern looking DAB radio.
Any recommendations. Essentially its for listening to the footie on radio 5. I dont want one of those retro looking ones. I want a portable mainly for the kitchen.

Has anyone got a DAB radio, what do you think of it. Mainly its for football on radio 5. The evening reception is normally terrible, loads of interference.

2.Can you really notice the difference in quality.
3.Do you need a long aerial
thanks.

It is mono, which doesn't really worry me too much. The extra speaker makes it stereo.
I notice the quality difference mainly on things like R5, and I can get 98-100% reception on most stations without the aerial up.
The only drawback I can think of is that mines' mains only, I would have preferred a battery option but it's not really that much of a problem.

Pure One is mains or battery (6 c cells I think) or you can get a rechargeable pack (fair bit more cash) which recharges whenever it's on mains power. Think most of the Pure range are similar. Check the specs at Pure.
Quallity is excellent, bought mine to listen to virgin, am transmission is rubbish but DAB is spot on. Never listen to 5 live but I'm sure it's the same issue as virgin. Pure One has an aerial but I've never used it. Perhaps it's just there for the fm which it also does. Yes it's mono but so was am, good quality mono is better than crap quality mono.
You do need to take all advice with a pinch of salt, just beacuse I've got excellent DAB coverage doesn't mean you will, the coverage varies across the country. Best bet would be to borrow one from a mate and try it in the room you want to use your's. If it doesn't work then doesn't mean it never will, there are new transmitters being brought on stream monthly. Details of coverage and new transmitters are here.

I've got a pure "Bug Too" as my bedside alarm, which is stereo, DAB, can timer record radio from the EPG, can pause and rewind live radio, play MP3 stuff and certainly doesn't look retro. Sure I'd say it's designed primarily for bedroom use but it works fine in any room of the house. It doesn't really sound any better than the mono pure devices at the same price, but it does a job I'm completely happy with.
