Hmmmmmmmm. Having owned an MR2 and talked to few Mk1 owners, this price seems fair providing it has some history, although the engines are bullet proof.
One of the only things to look out for is rusty rear wheel arches.
If its a nice one then go for it, they corner faster than you will want too!
[edited cos english is not my strong point]

Hey guys,
Just sold me scooby and have been offered an mr2 mk1(just for now) to run around in.. Has anyone had any experience with these???
It's a Gplate with 150K on the clock.. A nice tidy example as well!!
Chap wants about 1200 quid.. Is this a good price??
Pete

We had an E plate T-Bar with 85K on it for three years, we paid
£ 3750.00 for it in 1996 sold it in 1999 for £ 2750.00
prices seem to have dropped off a bit, there are not many nice ones still about, we looked at 21 of the damn things before we found the right car, nearly all of them had been stolen/recovered (many keys) or just resprayed to cover repairs/rust. Eventually found a nice tidy original example
It was good fun to drive cheap to run.
price sounds OK
Rust on the rear wheeel arches is a real killer, check the pop-up headlights work, then check them again!
Silly things cost money - Throttle cable is £ 98.00 - only Toyota make them and sell them! there are other parts like this. Gen exhaust is £ 450.00 + VAT Be sure it has had a cambelt change, may bre at 60K i think at 90K (sticker generally on the plastic cambelt cover) - This is vital
Engines generally tough, gearboxes not so, alot of g/boxes 'go' every 60K - wheel bearings and driveshaft/cv joints also.
Still, great cars, better handling/performance that the slower 'porkier' MK 2's
