Mk1 MR2 as a track-day car?
#1
Thinking of getting a Mk1 MR2 as a track-day car as it fulfils several objectives:
* RWD
* light
* cheap
Anyone got any tips and/or horror stories? Parts look pretty cheap too, but not sure about access to the engine bay. I wouldn't care about it being road-legal (could trailer it), but would probably MOT it every year to make sure nothing serious was wrong with it.

Hi,
My dad has a couple, one supercharged Jap import and a normal UK model. I don't think there are too many problems with them, apart from rust especially on the wheel arches. The engines seem pretty solid and the only problem with the gearboxes is that it has been known for a bush or something to work loose causing it disengaging 5th.
Not sure about the parts cost. I know that the original toyota parts can be a bit costly, esp body panels, but you can normally get 2nd hand ones, or get some made up.
I think it would make a very good track car, although it is not hugly fast, it is still plenty fast enough to have fun.
Hope this helps.

Scooby Regular
I run a MKII and love it to bits.
If you want plenty of info go here:
MR2 BBS
It is the MR2 version of Scoobynet and covers all models. Its a US board so the language can be 'different' but still good and some helpful people on there.
Keep an eye out for me on there - same username
