he joined the site and charge dumb tax to people that sent a complete stranger money for things he promised to post. TBH if you post more than you care to loose you are daft.

Its interesting as that site suggested they should limit sales to people with X number of posts - NONE of which is needed if people are sensible.

hopefully the police manage to catch up with him, and ppl get their money back.

If you are using a credit card to fund paypal, you should be ok to get your cash back I would have thought.

Well if it's paypal then he'd have to of given a genuine bank account to put the funds into. It's not like he'd be difficult to trace by the police is it?

Thats why all My ebay adverts carry this warning

" I do not accept paypal due to them funding crime "

they treat the good people like dirt. never use them if your selling. I have found I get a better response as the buyer also feels safer having to come and pay .

He only gets the money because people believe that they can get something for nothing ..... as most things, it's driven by greed - pure and simple.

Sadly, those who get caught deserve it!

and eBay owns PayPal, which means that they are the ones 'funding crime'. As are you by giving them your hard earned in listing fees.

Back on topic, PSL is right - he's preying on people's greed. Its difficult to feel sorry for those ripped off under those circumstances, sorry.

True enough. The golden rule - that if something looks too good to be true, it probably is - applies here.

Along with caveat - buyer beware!

I am happy to pay the ebay fee. its good value. selling using paypal is a mine field and I dont want my legs blown off. I limit the amount of people who will bid. But so far the response is good. Also I never ever buy or sell without talking to them first. No excuse, no matter what the deal is.

Just had this posted on my forum. Glad to see its alread reached SN

Theres a guy doing a scam at the moment. He posts up saying he has a garage full of car parts to shift, all very rare, desirable stuff. And great prices. Only accepts Paypal and if anyone wants to collect he goesa bit quiet on them. Usually claims to be rebuilding a V8 Landrover but whatever the forum is (Opel Manta, Mk1 Astra, Ford Escort) he's got piles of stuff for them from an old project.

Needless to say people get excited, pay him hods of cahs by Paypal and then he dissappears...

Examples of him in action

garage clearout! by order of the missus - EscortEvolution.co.uk

Opel Manta Owners Club Forum - the missus has spoken! lol [READ ALL POSTS!]

The Mk1 Golf Owners' Club

MK1 Astra Owners Club :: View topic - the missus has put her foot down, its all gotta go

he took the Escort guys for well over a grand before he was busted.

Please keep it in mind that forums are no more trustworthy than the local rag and probably far less safe thean eBay.

Be wary out there. If it seems to good to be true it probably is and if someone won't play ball with cash on collection then run a mile.

I agree I don't mind using Paypal for buying, because they invariably side with the seller in dispute cases, but I never ever use it when selling I'm fcuked if I'm paying their exhorbitant fees when they offer a seller no more protection than I'd get from sarasquares' toy dog
