Infrared control
I have all my home cinema stuff setup in a small room off the living room in a 19" Rack, and a few remote controls
Is there a way of being able to relay, or extend the infrared on the kit, (Amp, DVD player etc) into the living room so I dont have to keep going in the adjoining room with the remote control to change volume, play discs etc

i have a similar set up in the garage with a 19" rack and full network, but all the individual units are in the lounge. maplin do a remote control extender, which i've used for controlling an mp3 player/radio in a cupboard in a show home, but not sure if you'd need one extender for each of your units - unless you look into the phillips pronto type remote (used one of those in a show home too and it seemed to work quite well)

PMSL, I remember the national anthem too, and then that annoying white dot
those were the days when we only had 3 channels
What I have to do at the moment, is lean back put my arm through the door and guess with the remote control, bit of a PITA, ill have a look at those extender things
Cheers

just had a quick look at those, but i might need one for each device, and I imagine the kids would have a field day with 4 or 5 of those on the windowsill
I have got a remote angel, pre pronto days, but ive never really used it tbh

If all the devices are roughly in the same area you will only need one, I use one for controlling the VCR and Cable box which are in the livingroom but also fed upstairs.

I'd go for one of the Logitech Harmony remotes. You can get a radio-based version with an IR repeater that sits in front of your (potentially hidden) kit, then use it anywhere in the house.
For IR you don't need mirrors, should bounce of the walls

Anyone wishing to remotely control a digital Telewest / NTL box be aware that most of them use irda instead of ir. So you'd specifically need DigiEye™ Remote Control Extender (DG100DE)

Don't get anything wireless - its all **** and won't work when you want it to and pick up interference and change channels on its own.
What you want is what I'm using which is:
IR Distribution Kit
Plonk the unit next to your devices so all you need in your living room is the receiver.
If you need to extent the cable for the receiver (like I did) then get some cable and jack plugs from maplin and make your own. My receiver is an extra 15 metres away from the unit and works perfectly.

Oh and you also need a Wideband Receiver as well.
Works with my sky box, DVD player, amp, media centre, VHS and PS2
Next you'll want one of these:
Ultimate Couch Potato Gadget
I'm saving as we speak
