Abandoned car - anything I can do?
There's an abandoned car nearby (bmw 635, a reg, a right old heap too) but has in date tax disc on it! However the car has clearly been abandoned (been there unused for 2/3 months now) and is just wasting space.
Anything that can be done to remove the POS? or do we have to wait until the tax runs out?

probally be a good idea to report it to the local council.
Not really sure if there is much they can do whilst it`s still got tax on it.
A couple of years ago we reported a car which the tax had run out and it was gone within 10 days.

Get on Ebay as a "classic for restoration" - could be a nice little earner
I'd inform your local council and they'll send out a grunt to slap on a "please remove or you'll get towed" sticker, then 2 weeks later they'll remove it.

Couldn`t you ring the Police and ask them to trace the owner of the POS?
I have never been in this position, I am only giving my thought.
Anyway if you want to resolve this matter, Police are open 24hrs, council offices don`t open till 9am in the morning.

Ive had the same problem with a Van. The council were very understanding (the police didnt give a toss)
But as the Van was taxed and was secure and not a risk they wouldnt move it.
However if the Van was missing its pertol/diesel cap it was deemed as unsafe.
within 24hrs some ****** had nicked the petrol cap off it and the counicl got it moved !!!!!!

maybe the owner had a stroke or similar and is laying in a hospital bed recovering - imagine his horror if he recovered and found his beloved car was missing when he went to pick it up
best thing to do is phone police and see if they would contact the owner to see if it's been abandoned or if they wanted rid of it

Had the same problems last year.
The smack head guy who had been renting the house next door had 2 cars and decided to leave one of his piles of junk outside our house.
I reported it to the local council 3 times who couldn't care less, even after the tax had run out and i'd given them the guys new address. It sat there for 3 months.
Anyway, one night, somebody must have been fed up of seeing it and put the windows through .
It was gone 2 days later.

not crappy rust and green coloured ones with parts of the dash missing
probably just wait until tax runs out and then call council.
dunno why people abandon cars. just ebay it, someone will take it for £10 and do something with it, break it for bits etc.

No one will be interested if its parked properly and not causing a problem.
So, make it cause a problem. Hook up the tow-eye and drag it into the road.
Then call the cops.
It will get moved pretty sharpish then.

Contact the police... They will stick a "Police Aware" Sticker on the windscreen and if it isnt moved within a couple of days they arrange for it to be taken away...
Job done, everyones a winner... Would make a great project car though...

As Pete says, if it has tax then they won't do anything - just remember that.
Also, you didn't mention if it had any broken windows, if it did the council would move it much quicker as it'd be a hazard to kids playing nearby etc. I know this because my council told me the same thing once.
So, in a way it's a shame it has tax and no broken windows.

Having no tax makes no difference. As I said above, I waited until the tax ran out to ask for the second time for the abandoned car that was stuck outside my house to be removed and it made no difference at all, the council admitted this.
It will only be moved when it's perceived to be a hazard to the public.

its a BMW is that not a hazard in its self ???
why dont you give it a wash and a polish to make it look nice till the tax runs out, then smash the window an ring the council.
if your lucky the owner might see you washing it and let you have it .....
