Cancelling Sky + subscription & Sky (Whats Left)
I'm considering cancelling my Sky + (And Sky) Subscription......
I have the (obviously) sky + box........
Am I able to use the Sky + box as a HDD recorder ? what are the restrictions on it after i cancel?
Or as soon as it's cancelled does it become redundant, apart from receiving the free to view channels ?
Would I be better to flog it and buy a 'standard digi box' to receive the free to view channels ?
Many thanks
(wasn't too sure if I should have put this in the Computer forum..... )
Many thanks in advance !!!
Phil

I *think* the recorder part is deactivated.
Sky managed to suspend my service coz some bloke in Bombay keyed the wrong account number in. I was left with the free-to-air channels but the recorder bit wouldn't work. Tried to play stuff that was stored and it just kept telling me I didn't have a subscription.

I believe you can ask Sky for a 'free to air' card which will change the box you have into a freeview box. Although none of the Sky+ features will work once you finish your subscription.

You can now get freeview boxes with twin tuners and HDD, along with the EPG (electronic programme guide) you will have basically the same functionality of the Sky+ box. Can't remember where I saw them but they were about £130 so not too dear.

We have Sky+ downstairs and a Digi Fusion twin tuner freeview PVR box in the bedroom.
Although the PVR is good, SKY+ is in a different league for ease of use.
But for maximum free channels you want a freeview box as the Sky free to air channel choice is a lot less.

you just use the existing card I have just recently done this myself. It is a ball ache though as although you get over 100 channels all the existing channels that you used to get are still there so you dont really know what you have got until you select the channel and it tells you that you need a subscription.
