Configuration Management
Anyone here in Configuration Management?
I need to do a presentation on this subject soon, I know that I use it every day as part of my job ........... but need to put it into words.
I can find plenty on the net about Software Config Control ... but what about in other industries? Nuclear Facilities, for example?
Anyone any links/comments help/words advice?

There should be plenty in airframe maintanance as this is a key part of the aircraft servicing industry and is outside of IT (which will be 95% of the written material on the net). Same principles though

Config management is a bit of a broad brush:
I think you need to be more specific in detailing what it is you are trying to discuss.
Is it configuration definition;configuration intro/ change control/management etc..

I should just stand there and describe what you do at work, that the easiest way to do a presentation. Thats what I used to do.
Don't forget to explain the Doppler effect though

Why bother getting stressed about a little presentation. If I was you I'd be well and truly retired by now and enjoying the money I'd accumulated whilst I still could. Certainly wouldn't be at work doing a presentation on configuration management, which lets face it isn't exactly a taxing subject. Our QA guys seems to be able to prattle on about it for hours at a time.
Unless of course your not really as old or wealthy as you claim and are in fact a 40 something nerd with an identity crisis

Should be quite straightforward. Do a slide each on the standard things, e.g. how do you ensure that you have suitable records - e.g. up to date drawings etc? Obviously the answer's very different if it' a recently built facility than a patched up something of 1960's vintage. What's your change control process? How do you ensure the safety case is kept up to date (I'll give you a little clue as the answer to that one; LC30 should come into play).
Fundamentally I suggest config control is really about having a baseline - i.e. knowing (and documenting) what you've got and being able to demonstrate that to others, and change control - i.e making sure you have suitable assessment and record keeping when you modify things.
Only difference to a lot of other items is that with a haz cat 5 facility, a nuclear power station or any other high hazard item is that you will probably need to be able to demonstrate/substantiate to a higher level via paperwork why what you've got is safe, fit for purpose etc, and how/why it complies with the License Conditions and relevant standards etc
