Default Laser Eye Surgery

Hello

I know there have been a couple of threads here about this, but specifically has anyone used Optimax (the company, rather than the fuel!) and had the 'new' Femtosecond LASIK?

This is a present from my parents (who gives surgery as a present?) and I'm a bit hesitant about it.

Any advice and calls of "wimp" are welcomed..

Thanks,

Steve

I don't have any specific information about Optimax bit have family members who had this procedure done when it was first out, never needed glasses again and absolutely no side effects.

I'm looking at it for myself.
They actually make your eyes better than normal peoples eyes. And now apparently they don't need to cut a flap anymore.

The magic number is 68..... Apparently it take the surgeon at least 68 times to perfect it, so if he's only done 20 or so with the new method, leave it for a few months, then go back!!

This is the one that takes much longer to recover and isn't as successful (although less complications with healing). The one I'm looking at cuts the flap with a laser rather than a knife.

based on the normal op i looked in to i was told that it takes about 30mins for the op but you can be there for upto 3 hours(filling out forms, being tested and so on)
your eyes feel like you got grit in them and your night vision can be affected but will return to normal in about 72 hours i did have all the info written down but i've lost it
i did want it done but they don't do it in cheltenham so would need to go to bristol and i couldn't find anyone who would go with me on the dates available

My wife had hers done 6 months ago by ultralase, best 2k ever spent m8
I have 20/20 vision and her sight is better than mine now!!
Theres a bit of discomfort for a few days (like grit in your eyes) but the drops they give you sort that and also you have a while with sunglasses on
My missus is a right wimp and if she can put up with it you will have no problem

Nope, not as far as I know. Older brother was driving for years as an occupation and much of that was at night.

I had mine down over 3 years ago at Optimax, can't remember the name of the procedure, but it was the one that took a week or so to heal. No problems at all since, vision absolutely perfect, thoroughly recommended!

I suppose the issue is, could it cause irresversible problems in the long term ?

I mean, you might be fine for 20 years and then have the equivalent of cataracts in old age ?

I've heard that people with particularly bad eyesight don't end up with perfect vision, better, but they still need contacts or specs.

My vision is 8 diopters. That's a bit like Mr Magoo ! (I wear contacts).

I used to be about -15 or 16.........Total Magoo!

Through optimax I had lenses put inside each eye (called ICL's)
I'm now about -1 or -2 in both eyes.
Now I've got the choice of lower prescription glasses or lenses or Lasek to tidy up whats left.

The two main companies are Ultralase and Optimax.
From what I gather Optimax are on average a lot cheaper than Ultralase. They dont seem to bother too much with the customer service side of things. But the important stuff, i;e the surgery results seem to be on average the same as the more expensive Ultralase.

They've been fine with me and the staff I've dealt with (At Optimax Hull) have all been sound.
My only complaint with the Optimax is every time I've gone for a check-up there's been a different consultant - Kind of annoying

Boxst - The thing to do is do some digging on t'internet for some info. Ring up Optimax and have a chat with them.
At the end of the day if your not happy to go through with it then dont. They're your eyes afterall.

I couldnt do anything without glasses or contact lenses - now I'm begining to wonder why I managed to get by with them for so long

PM me if there's anything I can help with.

Regards
Tony
