Hogfather on Sky 1 last night.
Anyone else see it? Is all Terry Pratchett's stuff so artificially "clever"? It seemed to be full of stuff with little or no relevance to the story, a bit like Harry Potter? Or was that just the film?
Definitely underwhelmed, dunno if I'll bother with part two

I went off Pratchett a while back when he started mimicking his books on modern life too much. That said, I quite enjoyed Hogfather last night. They were going to have to mess around with it quite a lot to make TV out of it but on the whole I thought they did a reasonable job which was propped up by the cast - David Jason as Albert
IMHO they should have taken one of his better books like Mort or Jingo.

Hogfather isn't 1 of the strongest books in the Discworld series. Saying that I did enjoy it and will be watching part 2.
Its ok, but it was made for tv and had a budget to match to wasn't expecting to be in the realms of the Potter films.
I also think its probably 2 long at 4 hours!!! World have been better if it was cut down to about 2.5, would have meant it ran faster.

Enjoyed it.Part two looks better from the clips though
Think it is very difficult to get any book over onto the screen.I always thought DEATH's granddaughter was about 12.Obviously not!

Part 2 does indeed look the better half. Watch out for Terry himself!
Susan never struck me as being 12, more likes early 20's. Strange how 1 thing can give 2 people different impressions.

Interesting, finshed reading Hogfather a few weeks ago, not too bad and am curious to see what this'll be like, off to bittorrent I shall go
As for Susan, I'd agree with Simon that in Hogfather Susan is about mid 20's, but then again, she is probably far too sensible for her age.
Just looked up the cast list on imdb, spooky thing is the name of the actor who plays TeaTime

Well, bit disappointed.Maybe the wife wrapping presents loudly in the background didn't help!
Thought the wizards were a great disappointment.
Maybe its just so long since I read the books...I was expecting too much I think

I don't understand why Mort is highly regarded. I'm reading it at the moment and I'm finding it very ordinary and lacklustre compared to some of his other books.

I don't think any of the Discworld series will ever make good film/television.
For me, the appeal of the books is in the well-crafted written humour, and that will never translate well to the screen.
There are also some very long-running gags in the books which don't make sense in isolation.
As for the Sky production, I was very impressed with the effects for Great A'Tuin and the 4 elephants, but as soon as the view panned above the rim of the Discworld, everything else was a bit disappointing. Especially Mr. Teatime being presented as Willie Wonka's slightly more psychotic little brother.
That said, if awarding points out of two for Susan...

I have to admit that Mr Teatime got on my wick from the word go, but as the film progressed, so did my admiration of his acting. I found him quite spooky.
Unsure of a previous comment about the guy playing him's name being spooky, though? Marc Warren? Am I missing summat?

I havent read the book but dont think it lived up to the hype made of it. Was watchable but 2nd part seemed to drag.
Must admit Susan was a bit of a looker. Sure Ive seen her in something before but a quick search shows its her first role.
David Jason did well as always. Shame he makes me hungry with his constant eating. Same as in Only Fools and Horses - always chomping on a greasy fry up or bacon butty

Michelle is particularly cute
2nd part was deffo the better part. But the characters seemed weaker on TV than in the book, but imaginination plays a part of that.
I imagined Deaths voice as an echoless bass, but this didn't come across this way.
