A colleague's parents were both killed in a crash in June and the inquest was held on Monday.
The exact details of the crash aren't important, suffice to say it was a 'head on' after a skid into a lorry somewhere in Derbyshire (North Derbyshire I think, close to Sheffield anyway)
The extremely alarming fact that came out of the inquest was that an 'expert' had determined that the tarmac used in resurfacing many roads in Derbyshire recently (sorry I have no details of which) is alledgedly sub-standard.
Alledgedly the Bichamin(sp?) levels in the tarmac are all wrong, too much or too little I dont know, but the 'expert' announced that the effect of a car skidding on said tarmac would caused the surface layer of the tarmac to melt and and thus lubricate the tyres into skidding further.
Now this happened in June and so I'm told Derbyshire authorities have been erecting 'Slippy Road' signs everywhere since, methinks thats not exactly a remedy.
So, be careful out there anybody who drives in/around Derbyshire.
BTW, I've no idea whether there will be any reprocussions due to this alledgedly faulty mixture but if I hear anymore I'll let you know
I'm sorry for sounding like a scaremonger but maybe if you read this post and subsequently find yourself on a road in Derbyshire marked 'Slippy Road' you may be that extra tad careful.
