I can believe that people thought it was genuine when Portman were putting stripes and lights on Countaches, but that was nearly 30 years ago FFS.
Just goes to show, doesn't matter how old a joke is, if you look hard enough, you can still find someone who's never heard it

The Met do this several times a year at car shows. Simply a PR exercise.
However I do know that some forces use slightly less orthadox Police cars. Durham have a fully stickered up Lotus Elise which they use as a "Cruise Liaison Vehicle" to strike up relations between cruiseres and the feds.
