Ripper hoaxer to appeal sentence
BBC NEWS | England | Bradford | Ripper hoaxer in sentence appeal
Seems to me 8 years is about right for the crime, I wouldn't have blinked an eye if it had been longer.

he is taking the fall for crap policing. I am not saying what he did was right. but no way worth 8 years, secondly the policing of the ripper case was crap. Keystone cops

Anyone who's read up on the case knows how massive the enquiry was, and it was all card-based, no computers to store all the info. Some police incompetence allowed Sutcliffe to go free too.
But IMHO the hoaxer's actions fully justify the 8yr sentence.

it wasn't just a single action tho, when he knew the police were going down the wrong path believing him he reenforced their assumptions they were on the right track. 8 years seems very reasonable.
