re setting 'your' credit scoring/rating.. after bank error!
as post title,
the bank didn't take my DD payment like instructed on a credit card earlier this year, after them ringing me (the day after it should have been paid) telling me i'd not paid it... then took the money from my account, the £20 late payment fee was credited back to my account as it was their error.... this happened three times between feb and july!!!! even though I've two letters 14th March and 15th June telling me DD payments have been instructed!!
I've JUST found out from the bank that this would give me a 'black' listing and they will look into getting it cleared for me.
Is this correct, would it give me a bad credit score if i wanted credit.. if so can the bank sort it or am i going to have years of hassle to sort it out??
phil

Doubt it, worst you'd have is a "1" on your payment record. ie: every month the bank would report whether you are up to date (0), up to 1 month in arrears (1), up to 2 months (2) etc. So you end up with something that looks like "000000100000000", each digit representing a month.
1 or 2 of these are fine, worst you might have is someone refusing to give you credit if you had more than 3 months in arrears in the last 12 months for example.
Check on Experian Credit Expert, check credit rating, credit reports & file alerts - with Experian CreditExpert.co.uk or with Online Credit Reports and Credit Reporting from a Leading Credit Agency: Equifax

TNX, thats where my problem will be THREE months with late payment (over 5 months, banks error) and now i have 3 points over the 12 months.
turned down for credit.
can the bank rectify the three months they did an error so I show a clear score over the twelve months?

if it was the banks error and they refunded the charges then they can also (and should also) remove the adverse credit.
The will do this although you might need to complain first to get it done. Theres a relevant department that deals with credit/arrears/etc and they can notify the relevant agencies to withdraw any markers.

the three times it happened £20 was charged each time but then credited back, that shows they were in the wrong surely.
I'll wait to hear what they come up with

Salsa King - Hope you get this sorted with them,
Hates banks attitude (all of them with a passion !), they all seem to have this belief (IMO) that regardless the fact that you are the customer - you are the one that pays for their mistakes.

David,
should I pay £8.95 to view my credit rating with those guys or is it £2 with experian.
hows best to get a check on credit rating, on the net or write and get one sent.
who gives the most precise view on credit reports?

Without a doubt Experian and Equifax are the 2 big players. I'd recommend an Equifax report.
Don't bother with the credit score reports, they are a waste of money because they are completely subjective. Each lender will be different.

Credit is a farce, i have finance and a credit card and pay regular and more then what they ask for and im always upto date and never lapse payments and the bank try and offer me more credit but when i tried to get a mobile phone on contract they said NO so how they work it out varies from one to another.
