Great film, genuinely tense. Scorsese even manages to wrestle a good performance out of the usually wooden Mark Wahlberg.
Nicholson's performance is a gem

Thought it was OK, but it was no masterpiece! Mean Streets and Goodfellas are two of my favourite films, so I was looking forward to Scorsese getting back to form, but think this could have been much, much better!
I thought Nicholsons character was a bit of a joke, didn't make any sense and was hampered by lazy scriptwriting and lazy character development, although I thought he acted what he was given well! The whole build up scenarios were quick and cheap, and it all just played out as a bit simple, I thought. Everything was spelt out so obviously, very Americanised, sadly.....
There was no suspense and no twist (apart from a randomly injected character near the end) everything was fairly obvious.....
Infernal Affairs was a good movie. This was an ok movie. With the cast and story it could have been in the top ten crime movies ever made.......

Maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't paid full price to see it at the cinema?

and after watching the FULL film tonight
i take back my original comment
it was pants of the highest order
my fault for
a, seeing hundreds of films a year and being discerning
b, not being able to get past leonardo being "hard"
sorry it was a overblown channel 5 film with woefully miscast actors in none believeable parts
and dont get me started on winstones accent or nicholsons over acting
terrible

personally i thought leonardo was good in this (i always thought he was crap) but the film was a bit predictable to much un-necessery swearing and violence
my opinion of course but it could of been better

Saw this tonight and very very disappointed.
Ok plot, awful delivery and character developent. Shows how much film making standards have dropped for this to be even considered a good film.
Doesn't get anywhere near the likes of goodfellas, godfathers, heat etc.
Also thought it was all very predictable.
