Default Vodafone - O2 Phone help

I have got a Pay As You Go phone which is on Vodaphone.
Ive seen a phone i want Samsung SGH-E370 in red with O2

If I purchased the phone from O2 (pay as you go) will it be unlocked to use my Pay as you go (Vodafone) sim card in ??

If it is locked, can the E370 be unlocked ??

The E370 will be locked to the O2 network so you will not be able to transfer your voda sim straight in. You should be able to unlock the E370 but this will invalidate your warranty and there is a slight chance the unlocking process will **** your phone up and it will not work at all!

Really Unlocking could **** the phone.

What about buying an o2 contract phone then using the sim, will it still be locked ??

Never seen a Samsung shagged if it's unlocked properly and it won't invalidate the warranty.
Buying an O2 contract phone not on a contract will work but be more expensive.

Well i want to get a Samsung SGH-E370 in the RED
Pay as you go is £149
Getting it on a contract is free but the lowest tariff i can find is £20 per month.

The chance of the unlocking process destroying your new phone is very slight but you ought to be aware. 9 times out of 10 no problems and it is worth the risk. Depends if you consider yourself "Unlucky"!!

Going the contract route on O2 will probably be better. O2 tend to use what they call GSM hansets which basically means you can put pretty much any sim you want in it. Is the red E370 on contract? Why do you want to retain your voda sim? If its to keep your number you can transfer your number to another network?

How will it not invalidate the warranty? Non of the official high street stores will unlock the phone for you. The phone is supplied by the network and the warranty covers the phone as it is. If the phone is then changed from the original spec then this WILL invalidate the warranty. If a phone is returned for repair under warranty the imei carries all the info of the original sale and spec. If this is then different to what it should be the repair will not be carried out under warranty.

£20 pm is the cheapest i believe. Be carefull though, Because it is a low user tariff they might want to charge you for the phone.

Steve

You are confusing unlocking and unblocking. Unlocking is simply reversing a code that was put there by the network, it has nothing to do with or any effect on the IMEI.
Unblocking is changing the IMEI to get round the phone being barred after it has been reported as lost or stolen. Having the kit to do that is worth £10k and/or 5 years.
High Street stores won't unlock because it costs them a fortune.

Missed this one before i replied to the other one!! How much do you top up pm? Even if you only top up £10 pm Your totals are: 149 for the phone, £10pm x 12= £120. 149+120= £269 total spend over 12 months. Divide that by 12= an average of £22.41. You go the contract route you get a free phone and spend £20pm! You'll save £28.92!!

Does unlocking the phone include a flash of the software? The reason I have said what I have is because the company i work for stipulate that we can not accept unlocked phones back for warranty repairs. So this is all i have to go on.

Many O2 phones are unlocked anyway or they were in the past.... worth checking.

No, the software is not touched, biggest problem with warranty work is the phone will come back locked to the original provider in many cases.
If it's a high street retailer you work for I can understand the policy.
Some models, V3i's for example, do need a physical mod. that does invalidate the warranty but the Samsungs do not.
