Default Washing machine smell - advice please....

Having washed my dogs beds a few times in the machine, I'm struggling to get the "dog smell" out of it. I've never had a problem like this before with my previous dogs. No matter how much washing liquid and softener I put in, there is a faint stale smell to the washing, which I can't have!

I've run it empty with loads of detergent, and have put several old towels through but smell won't budge..............

Ideas please..........

Hmmm, turns out that the actual liquid could be the problem, using too much liquid causes a build up behind the drum. I've been using excess liquid to try and cure the problem, incorrectly! The answer could be to run a boil wash with tablets or powder...... So for future reference, everyone!

Sounds kind of obvious I know, but leave the door open while not in use for a few weeks - might sort it.

We do that, leave the washing machine door ajar whilst not in use to let it breath... Seems to work for us as it started to smell before begining to leave the door open.

Fill the powder draw up with bicarbonate of soda and run the hottest cycle.

Failing that, use white vinegar and run a cycle through with that. Will kill any known niff and the smell of vinegar doesn't hang around.

S'true! I've seen it written in 3 "Household Hints" books and it's even appeared on those cleaner people's programme....How Clean is Your Home / House.

They use vinegar for pretty much anything...including the removal of limescale.
