Diving at Sharm in September
Right I've trawled nearly all the posts about the above but still have unanswered questions if anyone can help?
Is September a good time of year to go? - I've heard of lots of people going later in the year rather than now.
Anyone dived with EDC in Sharm? I've done all my diving with EDC in Turkey so far and they were first class but thats not to say it will be the same elsewhere.....
Can you reccomend any hotels in Naama Bay? Im looking for something more small and friendly centrally located rather than some sprawling place with ten pools and screaming brats all over the place?
Finally, Im going on my own - am I completely mad?

Brum - From what I have read about Sharm september is absolutely fine for diving. I think experts would say main diving season is October - April, I know this is definately the case for Indian Ocean and surrounds and remember reading similar about Sharm. I would have thought september would be perfect.
Regards EDC I haven't come across them so I can make no comment.
Travelling on your own is a unique experience, I was away last year in kenya on my own and I am off to Mauritius 28th September for a diving holiday on my own again. It is the ultimate in "I will do what I want and when I want to do it"
I have several groups of friends and a couple of girlfriends that want me to go away with them but I just much prefer the whole experience when on my own. Diving on your own is fine, make sure you find a good dive school and you are completely happy with your buddy and it is just as safe as diving with friends.
Good luck and enjoy, nearly went to sharm myself this september, good choice.

I went to Sharm in mid March a couple of years ago.....it was'nt anywhere near as hot as we thought it would be.....you could just about sunbathe during the day, went cold in the evenings - had to wear a fleecy top to go out at night.
The diving was good, but daaaammn it was cold, even with a two peice wetsuit I froze my goddamn *** off, at the 10 mtr deco stop i nearly died with cold, i was shivering so much when i got on the boat my wife had to get my wetsuit off as i was literally incapable i was shivering so much.
I was a bit surpised really - as we have been to egypt later in the summer and it was the hottest place I've ever been too!

Might be worth Posting on http://www.scubaboard.com/forumdisplay.php?f=21 great source of all things scuba in terms of destinations, dive centres, EDC, is that Emperors or Euro Divers ??
Hurghada is good in September, so cannot see why Sharm would not be. Are you booking this with the likes of Regal Dive, they usually can advise on the best places to stay depending on your taste.
Cheers

Just got back from Sharm, so you can take me with you if like. Had a great time out there the water is brillant for diving.
The weather is a bit cooler in September, but still lovely.
Made some good friends over there and they are so helpful, if you need a guide or anything I can ask some of my friends, they know the lingo, which is always handy and when they take you round you dont get the hassel.

Returning to sharm on Thurs for a quick week of diving. Was out there last September and the sea was calmer than June this year when we were last there.
Haven't dived with EDC in Sharm though I know their base was just down the road from our hotel. I did my open water with them in Turkey but I think they are fairly new to Sharm.
As others have mentioned Ocean college, Emporer divers, Red sea diving college and camel divers are the biggest operators out there (did my advanced with red sea college in 2002) The last 3 times I have dived with a company call Dive In
www.divein.net
Excellent company based at the Renaissance Golden View, not as big as the others but this means much more personal service, boats less full and not having to travel round 10 hotels in the morning on the way to the habour.
If you want any more info let me know.
Roll on Thursday morning
