Mobile Phone PIN number. Urgent help please.
My lad's best friend works for a mobile car valet company and his boss has just died. My lad's friend is trying to sort out his funeral (and the business) and needs to access his late boss' O2 mobile to get in touch with various parties. But the mobile is protected by a PIN number which we don't know and can't find written down anywhere. How can phone be unlocked please? Sorry I know little about mobiles but I am told this is not the same thing as "unlocking" the phone with the IMEI number. TIA, David

Hi David
It sounds like the PIN for the SIM rather than the handset. I would try ringing the provider direct but I wouldn't hold out much hope. There's always a chance that the PIN wasn't changed from the default setting on delivery. Find out who the provider is, check their default (they're all different) amnd give it a go.
Best of luck.
Cheers

I've had to do this, in exactly the same circumstances strangely enough!
Anyway, what I did was put the pin in 3 times wrong until it asks for a PUK code and then:
http://www.o2.co.uk/puk/landing
And you can reset the PIN...

You cant access the phone if when you switch it on it shows up "ENTER PIN"
If you enter it wrong 3 times it them locks the phone alltogther and then asks for PUK code which you get by calling 02, only problem is you need to be the account holder and know the password and security id otherwise you don't bother your wasting your time.
Sorry but thats why they have them, sometimes people use the sme code for everything, like bank cards and stuff or date of birth ???
But remember you ONLY get 3 goes then its PUK time

Theres a chance you could find some of the contacts, for example I have that many contacts in my phone that half are stored in the sim and half on the phone memory, the pin will only be for the sim or the phone itself. So put a new sim in the phone and see if the phone is locked, if not you have half of the numbers presuming some of the contacts are held on that, alternatively put the sim in another phone and see if you can access the sim. doubt it though my bet is the pin is for the sim, but there is a good chance there are some contacts on the phone itself Good luck

Guys, guys, guys.... Someone's answered this already. (Rage! - good post)
You get 3 attempts at a PIN. After that, you get 10 attempts at the PUK.
After that you get a dead card.
Assuming you have the authority to view the contents of the handset/SIM then all you need to know is the mobile phone number of the SIM.
As the SIM is O2, then its easy. Pop along to the O2 website, and pop in the phone number of the SIM you want to unblock. You'll be given the PUK code.
Input all these numbers carefully. Note: after 10 unsuccessful PUK entries, you WILL kill the SIM card - there's no comeback from that.
If all else fails - pm me. I have other links to PUK generators.

A huge thanks guys - also for the more than speedy response. I have already relayed the info to my boy's pal and I managed to find a human being at the end of an O2 contact line! Amazing
