Default Maternity leave and pensions

Hello

Does anyone know much about the law around maternity leave and pensions ?

Some questions I have been trying to get answers from my wifes work for are proving difficult for them to answer....

* Does the employer carry on paying into the pension for the duration of paid and unpaid maternity leave ? If so at what rate (percentage of normal pay or percentage of maternity pay) ?
* Does the employee carry on paying into the pension for the duration of the paid or unpaid maternity leave ? If so at what rate ?

I'd try either her Union, or the CAB

Dependent on the varying responses you are liable to get on here, I'd also check with an organisation such as Citizens Advice Bureau.

I found this via google - not sure if it will be any help..

Depends entirely on the contract of employment, but if the employer pays more than SMP then the contributions would usually continue at the same rate as employer maternity pay (So if employer scheme is 18 weeks at 90% then both employer and employee would pay 90% of normal contributions, although the employee would usually have an option to skip payments)
