Default How hot?

Whats the max temp that your employer can make you work in? Its going to be over a 100 degrees in here today so i was just wondering. I have looked on the HSE web site and it doesn't seem to say anything.

Thanks,

DOg.

As I've said before - go work at the end of the oven in a large bakery for very little more than the minimum wage - and then come on here and moan about how hot it is at work.

Or alternately become a teacher - I hear they have it pretty easy....

I used to work in a photo processing lab, I was based in the tank room most of the time and it was over 100F in there during the winter.

Hello

I work at home quite a bit and I almost feel the need to drive to my air conditioned office. If only the air-con in my car hadn't gone haywire ..

I've done quite a bit of part-time work on the local steelworks. One of my WORST experiences was in having to mop out with rags, the interior of a small oil tank about 2m x2m x1.4m FROM THE INSIDE, then white spirit it until it shone, all dressed in t-shirt, jeans, PLASTIC OVERALLS, RUBBER GLOVES, RUBBER BOOTS, AND A HARD HAT! And that was in the summer of 1989 when it was nearly as hot as it is today. And I did that for minimum wage!

You couldn't do more than 30 minutes at a time in the tank, before coming out for 15 minutes for a much needed drink. It took all day!

The current Mrs CC works in a hospital admin office and they get sent home each time the temperature hits 32C.

Used to work in an office several years ago where the temperature regularly got above 90 F in the summer. Saw it as high as 98, but apparently the record was just over 100 - I was luckily on holiday that day.

It's a nice chilly 19 celcius in my small faraday cage. No windows, but I don't care.

The irony is, some of your customers are paying a fortune specifically to try to get to places where temperatures are that high...

You are doing a great job over there m8, keep it up. Guess it puts me to shame moaning about a paltry 30 degrees when your suffering with that kind of temperature!

Confined space working is a bit different though and is covered by a whole set of specific legislation. This will put the onus on who ever is carrying out the risk assessment to think about factors such as heat exhaustion and working periods.
