Mr and Mrs Doc, and litte doc fancy a camping holiday during the summer months.

Now, I'd like to enjoy the experience and make sure the family do to. So what should I look out for when buying a tent, for once I have to admit my knowledge is lacking. Getting damp is not an option......I'd like the family to do this again.

I quite fancy this tent and the price:

Not too bad for the price. make sure the bedroom sections are seperate to the outter lining, you shouldnt be getting damp with todays tents. saying that though if your on a holiday you never know what the weather may chuck at you, Id opt for a tent bigger than you need. Ebay isnt a bad place to pick up good tents at good prices, something like this you may think is overkill but you'd be grateful for the space and wouldnt be that hard to put up. The exta bedrooms could be used as storage and you can stand up properly in the centre if its raining etc....

We have something similar, but there are extension pods after the bedrooms so that you can a) access the sleeping areas without having to go through the main tent b) store muddy boots etc out of the way.

You really want a tent you can fully stand up in, it makes a big difference to your camping experience (and to the chance of still being with the missus when you get home)

We bought one of these, and normally its just me and the wife that uses it, plus occasionally my daughter comes along.
We don't find it too big, the extra space is very handy.

Argos ain't the first place I looked for a tent but at £110 its a snip!
And if you decide you don't like it, use the Argos 16 day money back policy for a complete hassle free refund

I would really advise against buying a tent off of ebay/website unless you have seen it in the flesh first. Go to a camping shop find the one you want and then buy online.

I recently bought a tent from ebay, similar to the ones you are looking at at and what a pile of crap it was. 6 man tent, entry area and 3 bedrooms.

crap tent

The tent was of exceptionally poor qualtiy and tore in three place the first time I put it up. I mailed them explaining and as usual, no response from them, I am now in dispute via ebay, but don't expect to get much.
I nkow I only paid £70 for it, but I would atleast expect to use the thing once!!!!

Thumbs up

A good value website / store for camping stuff is CLICK HERE

As a price comparison, a £45 stove on Yeomans website is only £33 on the Towsure website!

I've just bought one of THESE for £199 from Casey's Camping in Otley near Leeds. It's mahoosive Master bedroom can be huge for 2 or split for 4, with 2 further 2 person bedrooms and the living area can be easily stood up in and is big enough to park the car in If the weather is bad you will definitely appreciate the extra space, especially with kids. Easy to erect in under 20 minutes with just 5 fibreglass rods and guy ropes. RRP is £300+ so quite a bargain.

I've had a cheap one and the poles broke and the zips are crap.

I want to be able to stand up, have enough room for a table and 2 seperate bedrooms.

Seems I am on the right lines.....I dont want the biggest thing you can get...space is an issue, I dont have a huge car......and I don't do argos.

Depending on where you live, but there is a camping exhibition going on at Luckly Oakfield School in Wokingham, Berkshire this month. You can see loads of good quality tents there and pic em up at reasonable prices.

I like:

Windows
Standing up
A large living area for a table etc
Built in ground sheet - dry,and no creepy crawlies!

So I've had to increase the budget a bit.

What he said............

This exhibition has been going on ever since i can remember every year. At least you get to see all the tents up and can make your choice then.
