I wanna get myself a digital camera and I dunno which to go for, I am aware of all this 6 million mega pixels, memory sticks, 100x zoom blah blah but what I wanna know will 6 million mega pixels make a difference if I am going to simply reduce the image anyway. Surely having that resolution is only a concern for professional printing of the photo's. I also want one with a decent zoom and flash as I shall be lending it to my photographer friend for taking pictures that I will be using for corporate clients websites etc. Do these digital cameras have shutter speeds and other classic traditional cameras features. I am not concerned about size of the camera or if it can capture video. I can spend up to about £700 as it is the companies money and not mine What are peoples views?

The camera I bought is awesome. It's about 500 quid now, the FujiFilm 6800Zoom. The file size IS a plus point. If ever you want to print a picture, then obviously the better the rez, the better the print.

This is without doubt the best gadget I have ever bought. Its awesome, comes with real cool software and an ace caddy to just plug into when you want pics.

I have good contacts for price jimmi.

I think it's best to get the highest no. of pixels you can afford. A 2.5Mb file might seem big now, but it won't in 5 years time.
I've got a 4.3Mega pixel 4700zoom and am very chuffed. I only really use the auto mode and do get occasional camera shake if the light is bad. At least it has a timer so you can reduce the 'press button' shake.
And get a big memory card too!

Go look at the fuji website, you can download the instruction manuals I think, that way you'll be able to see the features of the cameras. Off the top of my head, mine has the following features:-
night mode
manual mode (adjust F.stop, shutter speed etc.)
movie mode with sound
closeup mode
adjustable metering
3x optical zoom
multi-shot mode
red-eye reduction
bult in flash
socket for tripod
3 different resolutions (2400x1280, 1280x960, 640x480)
3 different quality settings
colour LCD viewer (AKA battery eater!)
cable to plug into USB port
batteries
mains cable
It won lots of magazine awards. I bought 2 extra sets of batteries and a charger.

I've got a Fuji 6900 which would fit in your budget (just). Basically anything you could do manually on a 35mm SLR can be done manually on it - focus, aperture, shutter speed. Plus if you're being lazy auto focus, shutter priority automatic, aperture priority auto, program auto and some "special" auto programs.

Fuji claim the camera is 6.1 megapixel - in reality it has a 3.3megapixel CCD that gives a image quality which is supposed to be equal to 6.1. Apparently it's all down to the way the pixels are arranged or something. Image quality is superb. I haven't been able to take a picture at the highest available resolution yet as that gives a 17 MB file and the camera only comes with a 16 MB card as standard.

You can download a pdf copy of the manual from the Fuji website.

Thumbs up

I also have the fujifilm 6900z and am very impressed with the image quality and ease of use. As previously mentioned if you use the highest quality settings it eats memory but Smart Media cards are getting cheaper all the time.

You can either leave it in auto mode or you can use the manual settings very similar to a 35mm.

One of the digital camera mags gives it 10/10.

Buy my 4700Zoom off me and I'll get one like Cems.
Only thing I don't like is not being able to recharge the battery while they're inside the camera.
Pictures are awesome from the 4700.
My sister has a Nikon Coolpix 800. Thats very good too. But a tad bulky.

I too have the 6900z. It's awesome. Recommended, especially if you want to get into photography. The only slight annoyance is leaving it in the wrong mode, then taking a series of photos at the wrong ISO,etc, but that's user error and I'm getting there...
