Bamboo is very invasive, even the so called non-invasive types . The runners can spread out for yards before they pop up as a new shoot.
You may have to very ruthless with the existing plant you have, to stop the damage to your drive
Hope someone else offers you more hope than I have

To the original poster - try spraying the foliage with Roundup. Not sure if it will work as Roundup usually kills non-woody stuff, but it's pretty vicious.
Alternatively, put it in a pot and give it to my wife to look after. That's usually the kiss of death for bamboo chez nous

Although this thread has been muppetised....be careful you haven't got Japanese knot weed growing in your drive, it spreads like crazy and is a specialist job when you need to get rid of it as it comes under controlled waste, if it is knotweed and you take it to the tip you can get prosecuted for dumping controlled waste.
