Strange Behaviour...
Driving along A11 near Fourwentways this morning. I'm not in a hurry, rush, pushing whatever & driving sensibly. As usual, if not overtaking or in a position that the car in front should pull over to let me past, I sit on the inside lane just behind the car in the outside lane, in case he needs to change lane suddenly. This also helps if all the cars in the outside lane concertina then I have free space in front of me or in today's case if I hd been in the outside lane, a Monaro. Anyhow, I'm travelling at the same speed as the rest of the train.
Well bugger me if the car in front of the Monaro moves to the inside lane and slows right down. So I move to the outside lane to overtake. He speeds up and undertakes the Monaro, so as I'm not going to overtake, I pull back to the inside lane. Tw@t jams his breaks on so I move out again. At roughly this point is the exit from the A11 and he takes it. I pull back in and look over and he's mouthing "W anchor" and throwing Vs etc. Eh? What have I done to incur such wrath? Such invectitude? Fortunately for him it was too late to pull off the slip road and go have a chat but I couldn't stop laughing!
Otherwise, it may have been someone I know, so if anyone here was driving a Black 55 plate BMW 110d then please own up - might stop me eyeballing everyone around here, like the bloke who turned up this evening outside the local fish n chip shop!!
Or was it Sociopath? LOL

Reading through your description several times... then getting a full frontal lobotomy (or as near as I could in a short period of time: I sat in a mates BMW... get me in the right frame of mind)
Anyhoo... I reckon he thought you were going to undertake all the cars (as per your comment that such a maneouver would be possible if the outside lane slowed)
He then dived inside to force you to slow down so you were unable to undertake him and anyone else and then when you pulled out to avoid him he thought you were trying to dive past on the outside...
In no way do I agree with the behaviour but it's the only explanation I can think of.

Yes that occured to me as well. Problem was that after 4 miles of driving on the inside lane behind the Monaro which was behind the BMW both in the outside lane, you would have thought that wouldn't be an issue otherwise I would already have undertaken the pair! So to move to the inside lane 400m before you are due to exit the d/c and then start all that braking etc is more than a little strange. Oh & I always have my headlights on dipped beam - it is a Volvo after all!

a) I wouldn't be in a poxy 1 series and
b) you wouldn't have been laughing afterwards
By the way, in answer to your original question, perhaps you have an insecure driving style, much like your moderation style. I'd wager the driver was simply responding to that.

I always laugh - life's too short to take seriously
