Bloody Tortoises!!!!
As you may well remember we were given two tortoises from someone who couldn't look after them anymore.
1 Male and 1 female
The Male is a frigging nuisance ..... keeps bashing the females shell - he mates now and again ....... fair enough - BUT it is non-stop!!
We split them up to save her the bashing and to protect her shell from being damaged ..... they would only rarely come into contact in the wild and the female could leg it away faster than the male could keep up - but, in a 6'x4' cage she is limited!
These things last for 80 years ..... luckily I will be long gone by then - but that male may not get that far!!!!! I am about to KILL HIM!!! Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang all night long .... on the rocks, sides of the cage, he has even turned himself over in the Spring Rush to his head!!! The bloody idiot!!
Aren't males stupid ladies????

I've had my fair share ...... I don't miss it - better off without it, when you reach my age you will realise that there are equal pleasures in life!!
Ours are Tunisian Tortoises so are only about 150mm long ... the Magpies and Crows around here would eat them!! So, they are in a cage in the garden even.
He's a bloody bugger!!

Can you just keep tortoises in the garden then? My hubby has wanted one for as long as I can rememeber but the reptile shop said we had to have a vivarium, and as we already have a 4ft+ one for our dragons we dont have the space?

Happy to take one off your hands if it helps - the wife would love one but now they're illegal to import etc it's kind of difficult....
An amorous tortoise might give the squirrel a run for his money - we have an acre in Surrey but could sort collection (from memory you're in Scotland?)

I have suggested getting rid of the randy bugger ....... she hasn't said NO - but she hasn't said YES either! She loves them too much I guess? but he is a pain in the rear end!
I'm in Hampshire, by the way

They need warmth, much warmer than the UK can offer.
So, a vivarium is required with UV Lamp, Heat Lamp for basking, rocks, sand, heat mat, thermostat, etc.
They take quite a bit of looking after - but are cheap to run!
