Default Speeding advice (please!)

A work aquaintance of mine reckons he got captured by a mobile scamera van last week - he was travelling an unfamiliar piece of motorway & didnt realise until after he'd spotted the van the section of motorway was a 50 limit instead of the usual 70 (to be honest, i know the bit of motorway he's talking about and I didnt know it was a 50 either).

First question - how long till the NIP is likely to arrive? It was Friday morning he got captured.

Second question - he guesses he was doing around 75mph @ the time - if this is the case would be still be liable for 3 points + £60 fine? Or with that amount above the limit could he be in for a right shafting?

I said i'd ask on here as he's not that computer savvy - it's not me that's been captured by the way! (Well, i WAS caught speeding on another motorway years ago, and that was a 50mph limit too, and was the opposite side of Scotland)

1. why worry until the problem arrives?

2. 75 in a 50...hardly a big deal IF he has a ticket.

14 days + enough time for postage. Dont think he will get hammered too badly for that one.

It has to be posted to arrive by normal post first class post within 2 weeks of the offence not including the day caught.

Therefore if caught Monday to Friday it must be posted within 14 days including the day of the offence. So that in theory it will arrive on the 14th day after the offence.

If caught on a Saturday it must be posted on or before the 2nd Friday after the offence. and if the offence was on a Sunday it must be posted on before the 2nd Saturday. This varioation will also occur when the 14th day is a bank holiday Monday!

It must also be posted by first class post.

It can arrive after the 14th day as long as it posted on day 13 and day 14 was a day the post is usually delivered. But if it does arrive after Day 14 checking the postmark would be a worthwhile check.
