Does anyone have a Nokia 8850 on orange?
#3
I know orange dont do it, I jsut wondered if the phone can be made to work on orange.
The 8890 triband version for exaple does not work on orange as it simply does not pick up a signal.
I want to know if someone has succesfully made an orange sim card work in an 8850 and also if soeone knows where I can get one from.

Adam,
I along with my friend has an 8850. I am on Vodafone and he is on Orange pay as you go. As far as I know the sim card on Orange worked straight away......I'm sure he didn't have to unlock it.
Shaun.

Some unscrupulous mobile companies (used to be just Orange and one2one, but I think Cellnet and Voda are doing it now) lock the handset to the network -- you either have to pay them to unlock it, about £35, or get someone who advertises in the back of Loot to do it.

AFAIK the Nokia 8890 is dual band (not Orange/121, only Voda/Cellnet and US networks).
A Nokia 8850 is Dual Band like other UK phones (ie GSM900/1800).
I would look for a second hand one as they are £300+ off contract and should be half that off contract.

Adam, 8850 working fine on Orange. I had to buy the phone and year contract with Vodacrap, but because the phone itself is a dual band, it works fine.
The 8890 will not however work with Orange, but it will work in the states.

Do you mean it doesn't work with Orange Line 2? I can't see why, as it's just an 8210 in a posh (and expensive...) case with some blue LEDs. Holding down the # key should do it (it does on my 8210).
I have been using one, 8850 on the Orange network for about a year now no problems only that if you have 2 lines coming in you can not switch it.

sORRY, MEANT TO SAY TEH 8890 WAS DUAL BAND BUT THE WRONG TWO.
will stop shouting but cant be bothered to retype.
When I inserted teh orange sim into the 8890 it did allow me to switch between lines 1 and 2, even though neither worked because it doesnt allow orange and 121 frequencies.
thanks for help guys.
