Hmmm, I've seen air-conditioning compressors using a similar piston/cam design
Question begs if it was "that" good why doesn't anyone else make them (except a/c manufacturers )? Looks good on paper, I suspect the follower "wheels" and their associated bearing to a trouble spot, and they would add weight to the reciprocating mass, whereas a normal modern standard piston/conrod assembly would weigh far far less in comparison. Although the lobed crank would be far lighter than that of a conventional engine.
I also believe Alfred Angas Scott pioneered a similar "push pull" engine. But as far as anybody knows, it never left the drawing board and the engine and his ideas died along with him (Fyi - Alfred was the founder of Scott motorcyles - quite a clever chappy who thought of many unique features that weren't seen on other mainstream bikes until many years later)
Personally, I think they should bring back the Deltic engine

Interesting .... I'm sure that one of the big car makers will pick it up if it's any good.
Flat 4 with a different/no crankshaft in the normal sense ....

As I said...cylinder heads are familiar....as in they probably are EJ20 heads (makes sense to use them...as a lecturer once told me...why re-invent the wheel when somebody has already done it? ).
Block is totally different though - obviously. One is cast ally. The other is machined from a billet.

Thanks Ali. Although it is blindingly obvious to anyone who can see that a horizontally opposed four cylinder engine with twin camshafts for each bank of cylinders will necessarily have a similar appearance, it should also be blindingly obvious (although not to sociopath) that the two photos are not of anything like the same engine.
Huge clue - "engine" being inserted, the V in the belt points upwards. Impreza engine - guess which way the belt points.
Sociopath - Don't waste my time in this manner again.
