Just bought a conservatory that is self build.
Just wondering if any of you ppl knew how far I should dig my footings. I was gonna go 2ft. But a few guys have told me to go a metre.

What you think ????

Keep going to you find something pretty solid (clay / stone). If it's loose and sandy, keep going. On the plans for my garage it said 1m, but we hit clay at about 2ft down and the building inspector said we could have stopped at that point.

to be safe go down a metre,mass fill 600mm with concrete and then use concrete blocks.this will prevent any slipping of the base.i fit these for a living if you need any more help let me know.

Give your local council a ring, ask them. They'll know exactly how far down to go for your house.

For my conservatory, it was 18".

I would definately speak to someone with local knowledge, here in Lincs we have to go minimum of a metre in clay, the local building control should give you some guidance but once you start digging and expose your existing building foundations you may get an idea
