Help with finding someone
Hello
I did ask something similiar to this a few years ago (Wow, how long have I been using this), but I have exhausted all possibilities and wanted to see if any of the 'fresh blood' can help me.
I am trying to find someone from 37 years ago, all I have is a full name, occupation and residential address at that time on an adoption birth certificate. I have tried a couple of organisations to no avail. This comes to my mind every so often as time passes along with people.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Private companies? Or any contacts to find this kind of information? Perhaps how to get the current phone number given an address (if it still exists of course).
As it was so long ago, I don't mind putting the details here if it will encourage anyone to help: The name is Ethel Louise Patterson and the address was 24 Beech Road, Luton around April 1969.
Thanks,
Steve

Not sure if this will help as I've never actually tried it, but there is a huge amount of internet based resources for geneology (tracing family histories). However, it isnt restricted to just your own family. As I understand it you just need a few details about one person to get you started. It might be that you can do a search just over the last few decades that throws up some useful info?
I dont know the names of actual sites but Im sure google would help.
Another thought, have you tried 192.com?

Hello
Thank you for that. I should perhaps add a little more detail, she was probably in her mid/late-30's then so I assume that she went on to get married and the name would have changed.
I have tried 192.com along with bt.com to get 'pattersons' from the general area and called them to see if they had any relatives.

I think she would be a little too old for Friends Reunited, plus 'Ethel Patterson' unbelievably returns 0 results searching all their sites for all ages.
She was an Assistant Nurse, but don't know where and was born in Fintona, County Tyrone according to the certificate. I don't know when though.

Another idea which a friend of mine used recently (and succesfully). He knew the (large) company that his old friend had worked for and thought that his mate was probably now retired. So, he wrote to the company's pensions department enclosing a letter and stamped envelope and asked them to forward it his friend. To show that he was genuine and wasn't looking for this guy for "questionable" purposes he left the envelope with the letter to his friend unsealed so that the pensions people could read it and be sure that it was OK before sending it on. He got a reply and a phonecall from his old schoolfriend within a fortninght.
From what you say, I assume that your friend is now retired, so where is the office that pays NHS pensions? I'm also assuming that if you knew her in Luton and she was a nurse then, she'll be receving an NHS pension.

Hi Steve
Try this site here, you have to pay to access the records but if she got married then you will have a good chance of finding the record.

Hello
Thank you for your replies. I have tried 2000 sport's idea, and unfortunately the number doesn't work. I am looking through 1837 online.
How do I search the census data for 1971?
Steve.

Hi
Census data is only available to the public after 100 years so sadly no way to do this. It would be an easy way to do it but the data is kept private to protect the privacy of the living.
Looks like the address still exists as I ran a search on it on google and found properties in the street, number 22 seems to have sold recently.
You can pay to get data from the electoral roll, from there you could contact the current owners of 24.

Hello
Thank you for the newspaper stories suggestion. To add a little more information it is my birth Mother so, apart from putting it on an extremely public forum, these things are best kept private. I don't care but her current family etc.. may not know.

That part of Co. Tyrone is quite sparsely populated and Patterson is not a common name in that area, you might have only a handful of hits in the phone book. I'd say a call to all those numbers might at least give you a lead or get you in touch with someone related to her.
