Default Mad Max - Petrol Wars

Are we entering the age where petrol theft will become the norm?

Unhappy

Filled up the car yesterday - 60 litres 59.90p

If you where to syphon the tank and Bobs you uncle £50+ for five mins work.

Trucks have big boy tanks with 200lt+ and more and more cars now run on diesel so this is going to be an issue for the future.

I suppose tank syphoning is going increase as the price does, if you cannot afford it and driving off without paying is getting more difficult with then it is the next step i suppose.

Yeah, and you'd probably only get a slap on the wrist for doing it. The less scrupulous amongst us will just get fake plates and get away with it.

I mean, when my car was nicked, the first thing they did was drive off from a petrol station! What happened? Nothing!

Im sure its more common that you'd think.

HGV's must be able to fit 200litres in their tanks, so thats £200's worth.

Loads of garages seem to have "we are tracking your number plate, dont forget to pay for your fuel" signs up - suggests a lot of people are filling up, and driving off - probably in cars with false plates.

Fuel is a neccessity for most people, and its simply too expensive.

Even a small truck will have 350L tanks, if you look at the international boys, they often have 2 x 500L and possibly a big belly tank to boot.

Add to that 9 mpg fuel returns and road tax of over £1500 and can anybody work out why the haulage industry get upset when fuel prices go up?

30-50 quids worth of diesel stolen is hardly a title worthy of Mad Max Petrol Wars. As far as I can remember fuel in people's tanks have been siphoned off, by no means a recent thing.

The pikers even nick fuel out of the farmers fuel storage tanks when they get the chance!
