So, apart from the government, who didn't already suspect this was the case?

More than 1,000 young men are sent to prison each month, and it costs £35,000 a year to keep them inside, said the Howard League.

"When asked what would help them stop committing crime, 55% of the 86 young men who took part said getting a job"
Hmmmm yes this is why they got a job in the first place instead of starting a life of crime
used to have a lot of sympathy with people who end up in this situation but now I just think, you had choices now deal with it. Why should tax payers pay for the rehabilitation of people who, on the whole, choose to commit crime?
National Service thats the way

Indeed it's, provide everything on a platter for me and I'll stop being a criminal.
I can imagine however, if you did give them a council house and arranged a job for them, they soon get bored of having to actually work for a living and would revert to crime. If they had the determination to stick at a job, they'd have found one for themself in the first place.

Again there is no responsibility for their actions.
They had a choice to commit a crime in the first place
They have a choice as to whether to do drugs in the first place and each and every time
They have a choice as to who they hang around with
They had choices at school whether to work, skive and/or get results or not.
However once they have made all the bad choices the answer is not to punish them, they should then not be put into prison as a result of their actions that they knew full well could lead them there.
They should get jobs, housing and all the help they need etc but have not earned them like others have to.
about time prison was a punishment as it should be. A deterrant.
Hard labour, education for all and sentances increased for those that still want to be idiots. No parole or time off for good behaviour.
Prison is about getting scum put away from the decent people as well.

70,000 prisoners costing about £35,000 p.a. is £2.45Bn p.a.
On the other hand, we have a one-off cost of £14,000 on ammo. No need to spend more money importing AKs to fire the cheaper 7.62 rounds

9mm would do the job much better, unless you were planning on doing it from a rooftop somewhere then you'd want 7.62!!!!!!!!!!!
If you're gonna do a job do it right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Personally I suggest we feed them to the various carnivors in the zoos. No cost involved in the initial death and no body to worry about burying / cremating, all round cheaper solution.

its all just so infuriating though isnt it...?!
how many times has it been said that prison is just no deterrent and rehabilitation doesnt generally work...?!
prison should be a place people DONT want to go back to...get rid of all the welfare facilities, rehabilitation and much of the parole service and we could afford to build more prisons where the scum should be locked up 23 hours a day...no tv, internet, education or sports facilities...maybe an hour or 2 a day for exercise and thats it...
it makes my blood boil that there are prisoners living better lives inside than a hell of alot of decent, law abiding citizens...
transgress the human rights of another, forfeit your own...
**** the lefty pc do-gooders...

its just so difficult to decide
chav cull (argue about the guns between yourselves - Im a girl so as long as they're pink...)
or
public birching (now dvds of that to the right audience could actually raise a few quid....)
