Default Not voting - a viable option?

I'm not talking voter apathy, but a considered decision to not lend your support to any of the parties on a point of principle.

What are your views?

there should be a box for "None" so you could register that its not apathy.

I agree that there should be a "non of the above" box on the voting slip. However, I strongly believe that EVERYONE should go and vote in some way or other. People throughout history fought and died for our freedom to vote

Spoil your paper, just put a big cross through the whole thing.

I'm tempted to do just that today - but the only people who will ever know are the ones that count the votes, and they don't care. Shame.

The number of spoilt papers is a matter of public record, it says more than just not voting.

Go for a proper spolier.

Burn down the polling station - that should get you noticed.

Vote BNP - it's the only way of getting the rest of the arseholes to sit up and take note .

New Labour want to make it illegal not to vote. You will be forced to 'choose' to vote for their crappy policies or face being arrested and fined.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/4961532.stm

"Ben Rogers, from the institute, said he believed forced voting would improve British politics."

lol

There is:
Under the institute's plan, electors would be offered a "none of the above" choice or could simply spoil their papers.

I've voted once in 15 years, I'm not on the electoral role, not bothered in the slightest.

The problem is the incumbent takes this to mean that you are entirely happy with what they are doing and don't feel the need to come out and support them. If you are saying you are ecstatically happy with Labour, then go put a cross in their box, if not, look at http://www.spoilyourvote.org.uk and consider writing "none of the above" across your voting paper.

Actually the whole thing is a recommendation by a think tank. I think the idea as proposed is actually quite a good one.

Do I trust NL to implement it in this form? Nope, but only because I don't see them introducing compulsary voting.

You should be, not being on it does bad things for your credit rating
