There's import tax on goods you bring back from USA - so keep new, wrapped stuff to a minimum. It's not a big problem but carrying 18 bags full of brand new kit could well lead to a duty bill.
Erm, clothes are good. Most stuff is cheaper really, but electronics can be a bit different and/or have warranty problems (even if it's a "global" warranty... yes you, Sony you fecksticks).

As said by others, the main items would be things you can't get in the UK, or are cheaper in the US,
Remember that dvd's are region 1, so if you're buying any you need to make sure your dvd player in the UK will play region 1 dvd's. Also they use NTSC and not PAL, so the TV/DVD needs to be able to display NTSC.
If you are purchasing electronics then don't forget they use a different voltage over in the US so you will need a converter in the UK.
