Europe's leading banker urges UK to join eurozone
The Daily Mail - 12 April 2006
Europe's top banker yesterday called on the UK to join the euro despite the deepening economic crisis in Italy and France.
Jean-Claude Trichet, president of the European Central Bank, told an Israeli newspaper it is in our interests to sign up to the currency and he believes Tony Blair will make it happen.
Italian and French job-seekers have flocked to Britain, attracted by an economy that has outperformed the eurozone every year since the euro was introduced in 1999.
Italy has been skirting recession and hopes of reform are fading after the election deadlock. France is fighting youth unemployment and trying to galvanise its own stagnant economy. Paul Stephenson, of Open Europe, a think-tank seeking EU reform, said: 'The euro has been an economic disaster. We would be mad to join.' Holger Schemieding, co-head of European economics at Bank of America, predicted euro membership will stay off the agenda in Britain for at least a decade.

So they can finish the job of bleeding us dry.
Europe is all about integration, once the Eu has a "competency" in one area thats it. It can no longer be taken back apart from leaving the EU. Thats why 70% of ALL laws now passed in the UK actual are set by the EU.
They want us to join now because they are in the financial do-do simply because huge centrally driven economies dont work. But they think they are cleverer than the USSR, and are now finding out they are not. Not content with T BLair giving away our rebate (which he'd said 6 months before he would never do), the EU realises we're a nice cash cow and we should join so they can set the rules (QMV of course) so that we pay more! Its laughable if it wasnt so serious. There is a clear parallel between this and the Common Fisheries policy and the motivation is obvious. The EU invited us into the club in the early 70s (having rejected us in the 60s) because by then France had set up the CAP to benefit France. If we had joined earlier, we would have tried to make it fairer, or at least less Franco-centric. Once it was a done deal, we were invited in to actually pay for it. And then they made British waters a "common resource" with every Tom, Dick and Spaniard over fishing, putting British fishermen out of work and ruining the fish stocks. Hence the recent cod stock crashes. It's blatent madness, and once the pound goes you can kiss any resemblence of Britishness goodbye. You will simply be slaves to the economic policies of unelected Commision officials, enfocing a doctrine that has been proven to fail. NOT what our forefathers gave their lives for. In fact its such a crap idea that even the clueless moron in No 11 balked at the idea and thats saying something!
