Default DSS Buying cars?

Couldn't believe what I read here on Pistonheads.

Still not sure that it's true....seems so far fetched

Unhappy

I have heard this from someone who used to work for the Job centre/now works for the local council.

As stated on PH up to 3K if they can show reasons to need one.

Still maybe an urban myth, i find it hard to believe, this would discriminate agianst non immigrants!

Don't know what to say really

I cannot believe this! Outraged if true.

Paul, dare you to call NBC or NCC in a foreign accent to find out if they do this!

Let's hold fire until someone provides some proof eh?

I've done searches, can't find any reference to the DSS or other govt body buying cars for assylum seekers or immigrants. If anyone knows different, please provide a link.

Brit, I'm still not convinced despite a number of people saying it's true. Beggars belief if it's true.

I think I've heard this one before.

No proper proof yet, someone on here must work for the DSS?

Wouldn't surprise me.

They hand out cars to people who can't be arsed to work - oh, sorry, can't work due to illness.

Hand out houses to the very same. And conduct extensive building work to said houses running into £100K+ for again those people who can't work but seem quite capable of pissing what money they are given away down the pub.

I do find it a hard one to believe, even the gov't would/could not be as stupid and short sighted to do this, it would cause utter uproar and a lot of trouble/riots no doubt.

Must be an urban myth

Very true but please remember there are also genuine disabled people who need help and support.

Cheers

I did find some info before Scoobynet went down. What I found said that in some circumstances the DWP (as it's now known) may loan money to help start businesses and the amount is at the discetion of the DWP. So possibly that could run into thousands of pounds. Of course that money has to be paid back.

Not found anything yet which says they gift money to buy cars. Somehow it just doesn't ring true that the DWP would give people cheques for thousands that people just exchange for cars with the dealers.

Anyone found any hard evidence which says this isn't an urban myth?

DWP will loan money at their discretion, for anything... Home improvements, Children’s welfare, and cars… so it seems.

This is then deducted, automatically from claimant’s weekly allowance.

Not heard of such loans being restricted to immigrants, and asylum seekers though.

This sounds more like it, otherwise it would just be madness!

I certainly find it difficult to believe that they would give to money to buy a car. If they do as was described, it is scandalous to my mind.

The dla mobillity scheme hands out free cars in exchange for part/all of the allowance. I know someone who has never worked a day in his life kids and drives a new car every 3 years because his wife is apparently epileptic (despite not having fit for 5 years). He also gets carers allowance and a 3 bed house for nowt

I do know of a car dealer who has recived a DSS cheque for the purchase of a car from a jolly foreigner who knew only basic English....It was a Misuibishi Shogun (well, Pajero - Import) too!

My local barbers get immigrants in all the time trying to pay for haircuts...he tells to either pay cash or f**k off - I like his style
