Default feel a bit tight but done the right thing

got a letter though today from the council saying that our neighbour has applied for planning permission

basicly the bungalow that backs onto our rear garden, they have applied to put another level ontop basicly making it into a house

i went online to the public access bit and viewed all there plans and proposals, the internets a wonderfull thing lol

anyway i objected to it, i do feel would overlook into our house and block out light etc
whilst i dont wish to stand infront of progress infact if it was on the other foot id be pissed lol but there ya go i told the council my feelings on the matter
i also saw that they applied for the same thing last year and it was refused

Fair enough, that's why planning permission exists!

Do you know how much it costs to move? We're paying £7K in fees and paying a larger mortgage to effectively get an extra bedroom, utility room and dining room.

Good for you, if you feel it does affect you and your investment (property), then you should complain.

I wouldn't feel bad about it.

Well, it costs to move and you get nothing to show for it in the end. (The £7K I mean, obviously we get a bigger house )

Part of that figure is stamp duty. The Government gets a wedge of your money for doing what exactly?

It's the vendor that has to provide the HIP not the buyer. It will cost around £700 so hardly a big deal if you are making 30/40K plus on the sale.

CGT on house sales on the other hand.... now that would be something to worry about.

Agree about inappropriate housing development though. Some people are so selfish. I don't understand why the planners approve such schemes in the first place.

Blocking of light or view isnt grounds for refusal,

been there and done that...

our neighbour, has had the neighbour at the back of him build upto his boundary, and the guttering and eaves, are overhanging his property.

he reported it to the council, and guess what...

there was no approved planning permission for the extension..... so the builder applied retrospectivly,, and the council approved it...

now you tell me thats right

Where did I say it's the buyer and not the seller paying for it? It's fairly obvious that the seller is going to pay as it's called the homesellers pack for a start. £700 might not sound a lot, but it all adds up. In any case there is no real figure of what the price will be as it hasn't been implemented yet. I'll wager that for many it will be a lot more than £700 too.
