Default CCTV over CATV

Anybody up on CCTV cameras?

Looking for something robust to put on the outside of the garage. Considered wireless, but it's over 50m back to the house and the camera will be the wrong side of the garage to boot, so I not confident the signal will be strong enough.

I do have a spare CATV cable running down to the garage which I could utilise. The ideal would to run the signal up to the house, convert it over to an RF feed and plug it in to the TV distribution box I have in the loft. Failing that I'll plug the CATV in to the hub in the loft instead and would no doubt need to use the PC to capture the footage?

Anybody done anything similar, got any ideas or suggestions. Not looking to pay silly amounts of money for this, £200 or so for the hardware should suffice.

I had this for sale on ebay, didn't sell so you could have it for £100 inc Post and Packaging.

Colour cameras so you will need a bit of light, say a normal security light, but the images are good and it is brand new.

I'll have a read of the spec when I get home and see if it'll do the job - cheers

I've got 8 CCTV cameras, modulated to RF & distributed around the house.

50m should be fine. By CATV cable, do you mean coax - if so, should be OK, but ideally you should modulate it in the garage and use the cable to carry the RF signal.

You will also need to get power to the camera, which you may have in your garage. If not you can get cameras with combined power & signal cable (also sound if you want a microphone).

I bought all my stuff from RF Concepts

No, I mean CATV network cable - the stuff with 4 pairs of twisted wires in it.

I don't mind that as long as I don't need a PC in the garage

Power isn't a problem, the garage is my workshop hence wanting the CCTV.

Had a look, it seems (and feel free to correct me here), like you have to plug the camera(s) in to the control box (no idea how long that cable can be, but it doesn't look like it's CATV) then you plug the box in to the back of the PC with a USB cable?

My problem is that the cameras will be sited over 50m away from a PC and the only cable I have available to me is a spare CATV network cable that has been run down with the power and alarm cables. Reading the spec, there is no mention of running over CATV. I suspect I'm going to need an IP camera of some description to get this all working.
