What exactly does it do?
I thought they were basically the same phone but the W800 had a bigger memory card...

Hello,
Basically you upload the W800i firmware to the K750i phone.
Hardware wise the phones are identical I am told.
I uploaded the W800i firmare to my K750i because the usual tool from Sony for uploading new firmware failed half way through. So my phone wouldn't work again until I had to reflash it using a third party tool. Therefore I thought I might as well give the w800i firmware a try.
To be honest it's not worth it !! Only difference is the Walkman feature.
Cheers
Gary.

Yeah not much difference, you get different themes but you do get the better media player and you can use the play button on the side without plugging the headphones in. Oh and you can turn it on in MP3 player mode (i.e. no phone) so you can use it on planes.

well payed my money, and got nowhere...
it would appear there is more to it than it seems..
you need to know what colour phone you have,,, red or brown... erm mines black, in case people didnt notice?? i havent seen a red k750i only a coppery coloured W800.. brown phones???
and you need to have the correct loader?? again no help given... you work it out...
once you then try to decipher the step by step guide,,,,, you get hundreds of files to download,,,,,, you choose...... and the one they indicate is correct ... turns out isnt the latest one, and how do you know which one is correct???
only by trawling the forums... even then it dosent tell you which is the correct one...
and the bottom line is you could still be left with a dead phone, requiring multiple flashes and it still may not work..
i,ll put the 7 euro,s spent on nothing down to experiance and stick to a working phone

prhaps if people were to post how they did it, it might solve some of the problems..
it would appear there is a substantial anount of people on the DV forums who also havnt found it 'easy'

MArt, sorry, should have pointed out, the battery needs to be 100% fully charged or it will only partially flash. When you start the phone, do you get the option to start as phone or MP3 player only?

Ok from what i remember
my phone was charged to 88% when i started the process it should be fully charged
you need to have purchased a credit (1 min) to do the finalisation
costs 10 eur per credit (£7) and can be done via paypal
The step by step guide is very good, http://www.seuniverse.com/step1.php but ommits a few points...
you need to identify your cable in the client application, under the rts box under the ports setting...
and you need to install the usb flash files, once you have done this you need to press the read cid/test cable button to start the test section
then make sure your phone is off and battery out for 10 secs reconnect battery but dont turn on..
hold down and keep holding down the C button whilst plugging in your usb cable into the phone... it should if alls well interrogate the phone and tell you what phone colour you have, and the correct files to download...
if the phone powers up... then you did something wrong, or the usb flash drivers havnt been installed... incedentally they are unsigned so XP gets twitchy, you have to accept them as unsigned for them to be installed
then unplug the phone (leave the usb end in the pc)
use the client (also known as the launcher ) and get the file list up
the file level i used is W800_R1BC002_MAIN_EMEA.DVT file & W800_R1BC002_FSEU2.DVT
you need the two files...
you then have to select the right CDA file from the dropdown list... i used CDA102337/10-Europe2
you need to make sure the "main" "FS" & "finalisation boxes are ticked and then you click flash
you would be well advised to read and be familiar with this guide before starting
http://www.seuniverse.com/step1.php
Warning ***
each phone is different, and you do it at your own risk
Warning ***
My phone was not network locked ( gsm cross network upgrade)
i also had just done a flash from the SE webite to the latest firmware, so i dont know if that made any differance..
once i carried out the flash, you can see the phone was dead but i removed the battery and left it for a few secs, and reinstalled the battery.. turned on.
and W800
hope this helps

Guys,
After doing the W800i firmware upgrade I found that my Phone Internet/WAP didn't work anymore and kept asking me to create a profile on my phone with loads of login information. Anyway, after some research I found this :
http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?...s1_1&pid=10245
I tried it and my WAP phone is now working again.
Cheers
