Benifical for what ?
None of them will build muscle or improve your fitness.
The Steam/sauna will increase your heart rate when used with cold plunge.
I find that a steam after a workout helps me relax, but thats it.

Our old sauna in the local swimming centre was apparantly heavy on the gay swinging scene so we were told after we had been.
According to the souce, it was advisable not to get in the jacuzzi when the towel was hung over the rail

well no actually
it depends on how deep the tissue trauma is
hence serious bodybuilders resorting to deep tissue massage and heated compresses
personally i enjoy a sauna it clears the body of infections too and gets rid of a lot of toxins

KiwiGTI has the current thinking about ice bathing about right. When you train hard you will cause micro tears in the muscle fibres. As with most damage these will lead to bleeding. So taking a nice warm bath etc as most people will appreciate will increase the blood flow to the area. With the micro tears this means more intramuscular bleeding which leads to a great build up of what is muscular debris (essentially scabs).
The result of all this nonsense is DOMS Delayed Onset Muscular Soreness.
Hence ice bathing post work out constricts the blood vessels reduces the blood flow, hence intramuscular bleeding and allegedly muscular soreness. Though try and tempt me into an ice bath post rugby match and you may loose a few teeth.

Go for a sauna before a workout. After a workout you need cold for 4ish hours to minimise damage. After 4 hours, heat to increase blood flow and damage repair. This is not current thinking - my hurling coach told me this in 1981
