Credit Blacklisted?
Been getting a lot of mail for the previous residents of my property, which I've been forwarding to them or returning to sender if its obviously junk mail.
Received 2 letters yesterday that didn't have return addresses but were "serious looking". Decided to open them. Both were from debt collection agencies advising that the bailiffs were on their way!
As you can imagine I was horrified and have phoned both agencies today and given them a forwarding address.
Anyway what worries me is whether or not this will affect my credit rating?
Also I know that opening the letters was the wrong thing to do, but do you think I should open any more that come?

Don't know about opening anymore bud', but this may require a bit of letter writing. If the debts were bad, the address may have been blacklisted, obviuosly not your fault but it is your problem. Get on the Electoral Register at your new address and make sure they previous occupant is off it.
My brother had a similar problem. It was sorted in the end but took time and patience.

This sort of thing is a pain in the butt!
Suggest that you return all mail to the senders clearly marked "not resident at this address" as opposed to forwarding it when all they are going to do is bin the stuff.
Also check the local electoral register for your address. If they are still on it and you are not then get the register amended pronto as the first point of reference for credit agencies and debt collectors is the electoral register.
If thigs do get too far (which they shouldn't) you will need to contact the two main credit reference agencies (Experian is one, cant remember the other) and get a note placed against your address explaining the situation which anyone that you apply to for credit can then see when they do a search.
Hope this helps and good luck!
