Default Gordon Brown

Does anyone else worry that a man who can't drive and has no intention of driving will soon be running the country.

You can be sure that the motorist will get a great deal with this guy in charge!

That's a very weak argument Dave. He's not many things, doesn't preclude him from being PM. He's male too by the way, so I guess women will lose out as well

FWIW, I don't like him for what he's doing to the economy. Whether or not he drives or likes the same things as I do is irrelevant.

I just worry that a bloke who by the fact he doesn't drive, knows jack **** about driving, will soon be in a position to affect how millions of British people spend will spend their time behind the wheel.

Road policies, road maintenance funding, speed limiters, congestion charges, 24/7 surveillance systems...........he doesn't care as it has no impact on him.

It just sounds odd to me........

I'm not sure it's that weak.......one thing is for sure, the motorist is not going to get a better deal is he?

So are you saying only a pro-motorist should become PM?

How do you know the motorist will get a better deal or not? You can't base it on whether or not he drives or not. It's like me saying (as someone who uses the train everyday) that he shouldn't become PM as he never uses the train. He isn't a Doctor either so should he not be PM as he'll have power over the NHS? He isn't a soldier, so should he not be PM as he'll have the power to wage war. He isn't a policeman so should he not be PM as he'll have power of law and order? And so on. PM don't (and some might argue shouldn't) have to have that much knowledge over many things. He then takes advice, looks at pros/cons/moral/social/financial issues and makes decisions. If you don't like those decisions, vote him out. If he is a 'member' of a certain subset of the population then they may help (or indeed hinder, bias etc.) then he may have some more insight into a given topic area, that's all.

Surely it's better that he's running the country than the treasury if you're worried about motorists getting screwed. It's him that's responsible for petrol prices remember.

Not quite. He's responsible for the duty on petrol which hasn't gone up in 5 years! The remainder of the rise is the cost of oil and a small amount of vat (17.5% OF the rises).

Q: Could it be any worse than with Blair in charge?

A: Yep, a lot.

But who put it at the ridiculous level it's at now?

Diesel in France, (NOT a cheap place to buy) : €1.02, or £0.72 per litre
Diesel in the UK, (A VERY expensive place ): £0.92 per litre

And wtf do we get for our extra 20p per litre, (or 85p per gallon), that we pay? Not decent roads, that's for sure Oh yeah, I forgot: we get to put troops in Afghanistan and Iraq

What about the 1st 5 years under this poxy government, horrendous petrol inflation, the only reason it slowed down was fuel protests, that was long before oil price rises.

Interesting how we can have a Scottish PM making policy decisions on a raft of issues that dont affect his own consituents at all.

Ahh yes. the 2 wrongs make a right argument.

A fine response, after all its kept violent conflict simmering nicely for centuries.

Dave; I broadly agree with you, but if politicians were restricted to topics on which they were knowledable: then thered be a ****-load of vacancies.....

That reminds me of my favourite John Peel quote, upon Chris Moyles's joining the BBC:
