The 27th should be your last day on the sick, so return on the 28th.

Yes, always return to work the day after the last day on the note. They aren't worded well, but it does mean you shouldn't be working on the 27th.

It's a conspiracy to get people with a conscince back to work a day early!

Or, as I have done before, use a bit of artistic licence and make it March, depending on the Dr's script!!!!

BTTT

I have this situation where my HR are saying I need a note for 1 day because my sick note said, "Refrain from work between the 15th and 29th March". When would you say I should have gone back?

IIRC then strictly speaking you should get a doctor to 'sign you off' the sick, rather than 'sign you off' work. This means that they should state that you are once again able to work. Self cert for anythign shotrer than 7 days.

A sick note simply shows that a doctor says you shouldn't work in a particular period, you don't have to return to work as soon as the note runs out as the doctor can retrospectively sign another sick note.

they are not sick notes anyway. they are officially call "fit notes" now. you no longer need a sign off line now either if you return you work early.

This was before the "Fit Note" came in on the 6th April. I have had to get one of those too, due to breaking my wrist again.

Bit peeved really cos they say I owe them a day off now.

Anyone know the answer to my specific question please?

I do payroll for a few Companies and I would have expected you back at work on 30th March. Or another sick note from that date. I might be wrong, but have not had a problem up to now
